Ingredient Spotlight: Saffron

Saffron is the epitome of Your Royal Ritual.  More expensive per ounce than gold, it has been used for thousands of years in India as a beauty treatment for the elite.  Saffron is best known for its ability to brighten: treating dark circles under the eyes and for creating a glowy complexion.  Add some extra glow and luxury to your ritual with saffron in our Flawless Veil Masque.

Saffron has an incredibly rich history and can be traced back 3,500 years to the region of Central Asia.  Saffron is considered a luxurious spice (more expensive by weight than gold) due to the fact that 1 perennial blooming flower yields only 3 strands of saffron. 1 lb (450 g) of dry saffron requires the harvest of 50,000–75,000 flowers.

Why is saffron such a magical spice?  It contains a carotenoid called crocin which imparts bright golden yellow color.  Crocin is known to help with brightening of the skin including soothing hyper pigmentation (reducing dark spots) and is packed powerful anti-oxidants to help keep skin looking more even.

Many countries claim to have the best saffron: Iran, Spain and India.  While they are all incredible, we love the story of Saffron from Kashmir, India.  Kashmiri Saffron is known to be the most flavorful and is grown in a mountainous region in northern India.
